Journal 10: Remix to Ignition

I choose to write my journal based on this meme/poster because it’s not only a remix of the classic Jaws movie poster, it also makes everyone that sees it think about how humans are affecting animals in a negative way. When I first saw this picture, I automatically thought about that saying “they’re more afraid of us than we are of them” which I always thought was really silly as a kid. However, now that I’ve grown up a bit and learned more about the world, I’ve come to realize that the animals that this saying was referring to had very good reason to be afraid. I’d say that this text is a success to both goals it can have. One goal could be to entertain. It definitely succeeds with this goal because it’s funny that the roles were switched and it makes you think about how the movie would’ve been different with this situation. Another, deeper, goal could be to bring to light the terrible things that we, as humans, are doing to the oceans, and the Earth in general unintentionally. It also succeeds in this goal. I think the way that they changed the sizes of both the human and the shark were strong ways to succeed in both of these goals, because the different proportions are funny, and it portrays the way that humans are hurting animals that can’t fight back.
