I am choosing to write on the prompt: “reasons for revenge.” Clearly, there’s something in all of us that makes us feel the need for revenge because, despite the wrongness we feel after, revenge is used very often. I believe that the driving force behind revenge is a psychological need for it. Revenge comes in many forms. It can range from some simple sub-tweeting all the way to cold-blooded murder. We react differently to various situations that elicit our need for revenge. I believe that it’s also our psychological need for revenge that regulates how intense our revenge is. So, my question behind my research is “why do we, as humans, have a psychological need for revenge?” I am very interested in this topic because it engulfs psychology and a little bit of sociology. I am very interested in both of those subjects, and I always have been. I am not a psychology major but I do individual research by myself in that area, and I have even wondered about this very subject before. I came up with my research question by doing a little bit of pre-research on the topic of “human need for revenge.” In my findings, I saw many very interesting articles relating to psychology being the driving force behind revenge. I knew that I was very interested in this topic and could find very good evidence to support it. I think that question is very relevant because knowing what drives revenge is an effective way to reduce our need for it. I plan to explore my question on the various databases that the graduate student showed us in the library last week, I will also look for some books that talk about this subject.
